An Enchanted Afternoon

  • Guided Tour - Enjoy a guided tour of the home of Confederation advocate F. Gordon Bradley with one of our knowledgeable interpreters. Hear stories of life in Bonavista and Newfoundland in the 1930s and 1940s. And explore what led up to Confederation with Canada in 1949.
  • Fun and Games on the Lawn - Grab a picnic blanket and some games for some fun and leisure on the Mockbeggar lawn.  Blankets and games available from staff in the main house.
  • Confederation Experience - In 1947 F. Gordon Bradley was elected as one of 45 delegates to sit in the Newfoundland National Convention. The Convention was a forum established to debate constitutional options and make recommendations as to which options would appear on a ballot in a national referendum. Listen to some of the debate from the late 1940s including speeches from F. Gordon Bradley and the future premier Joseph R. Smallwood. Explore newspapers from the time to see how the people of Newfoundland felt about joining Canada.

Atlantic String Quartet

Formed in 1985, the Atlantic String Quartet (ASQ) is a versatile and professional chamber ensemble comprised of the principal string players of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra (NSO): Heather Kao, first violin; Nancy Case-Oates, second violin; Kate Read, viola; and Theo Weber, cello. In addition to their work with the full orchestra and NSO Sinfonia, the quartet produces its own Recital Series each season, presenting a broad selection of works from the rich quartet and small ensemble repertoires.

Since the release of her multiple award winning debut recording, AERA, with its pop and soul vibe, Newfoundland native Brianna Gosse has been steadily turning hearts and ears with her charm, musicality and incredible voice. Whether performing with a full band, or simply as solo guitar and ukulele, her songs breathe a resonance that has graced airwaves, stages and events from St. John's to Kansas City and steadily making fans at all stops in between!

Jamie Dart and Sandy Morris

Sandy Morris known to his musical friends as "the easternmost guitar player in North America" is an accomplished and multi-talented musician, producer, and engineer based in St. John's, Newfoundland. Picking up his first guitar at the age of 15, Morris has made his living as a versatile and ingenious performer since 1965. An original member of the legendary Wonderful Grand Band, his more recent collaborations include Rasa (with Erin Best), and the Eight Track Favourites.

Celtic Fiddlers

The Celtic Fiddlers are a group of approximately 12 young people ranging in age from 14 to 22 years whose main goal is to keep Newfoundland and Irish Music alive in the youth of our province. They were formed in 1993 under the direction of the very dedicated Korona Brophy, and have been touted as true Newfoundland ambassadors of traditional music by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation. The Celtic Fiddlers are a performing group that is accompanied by drums including the bodhran, a keyboard, guitar, bass, Irish tin whistle, banjo, cajone, accordion and mandolin. Through weekly rehearsals they enjoy learning new pieces of music, especially the songs and jigs and reels of their Irish ancestors.
