  • Guided Tour - Enjoy a guided tour of this active archaeology dig with one of our knowledgeable interpreters. Every summer, archaeologists working the dig site at Cupids Cove Plantation reveal more and more about the lives of these colonists - Canada's first English settlers.
  • Up-close with Archaeology - Cupids Cove Plantation is an active archaeological dig on the site of a colony established by John Guy in 1610. Watch to see what discoveries are being made as you explore the site. Chat with the archaeologists about what they are doing and have a chance to pitch in and help. Check out the small lab on site to find out what happens to an artifact after it comes out of the ground. What will you discover today?
  • Mock-Dig - Discover the excitement of being an archaeologist and making new discoveries at our Mock Dig site. In this ongoing experience, children become archeologists and have the chance to dig for replicas, measure their finds, and record it on field tags. Visitors learn about the archeology process by digging up toys, jewelry, and pieces of a pot they tried to put back together.
  • 1600s Garden - The colonists at Cupids grew, foraged and hunted for food. Visit the Kitchen Garden to explore what they grew in the 1600s. Ask about the other food sources the colonists used to survive in Newfoundland.
  • Fun and Games in the 1600s - While at the Visitors Centre grab a
picnic blanket and some games for some early 17
th century fun. Head outside to try Fox and Geese, Nine-Man Morris, or Goose.
