Walking Crout's Way
September 25, 2016, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Join us for this very Special Event as archaeologist Bill
Gilbert retraces the steps of Henry Crout's expedition from Cupids
Cove to Hopeall in Trinity Bay in September of 1612.
The event will begin at 9:00 am at the Cupid's Cove Plantation
Provincial Historic Site with a tour of the ongoing archaeological
excavation. From there participants will be transported to a
section of Crout's Way where Bill Gilbert will lead a hike along
part of the route followed by Crout and his companions 404 years
ago. The hike will last approximately five hours
including a lunch break and other stops along the way.
Transportation will be provided back to the Cupids Cove
Space is limited for this event and all who wish to participate
are required to book in advance.
The hike will cross some rough terrain and is of a moderate
nature. As such it is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues
or medical conditions that would preclude physical activity.
Participants should bring all required items for a hike of this
nature; food, water, sunscreen; bug repellent, appropriate clothing
and footwear. The hike will pass through some wet
areas so having waterproof footwear is a must.
This event is weather dependent
